There’s gold in them thar hills! (or at least Marko Jaric’s silver money clip and stuff)

Posted by frontrangeriffraff on June 23, 2009

9News (Colorado’s News Leader, and don’t you forgets it!) has a heartwarming story of a Parker family who found a money clip at Jackson Hole belonging to some some famoose NBA dude who’s too busy traveling the world with his Victoria Secret model wife to bother getting back his cashola and ID and credit card and all, so they called 9News to gets the word out and return the money to the previously mentioned  NBA playa. Like all good honest Colorado folks would do, of course.

From the tale of discovery:

In search of a good bargain, the Rogers family decided to ride the free gondola up to the top of a mountain while on their vacation in Wyoming.

“We do anything that’s free,” Jane Rogers said.

“I was over on a pile of snow… sliding down on my feet and my mom just told me, ‘Quickly, quickly, come over here,’” Dustin Rogers said.

In a melting pile of snow, Jane had found a silver money clip – and it was full.

Yeah, heartwarming and all, but what those 9News peeps didn’t tell you is that there’s millions of dollars worth of cash, cell phones, ski poles, gloves, sunglasses, bags o’ weed, gold chains, goggles, GPS’ssses, flasks, diamond rings, cigarettes, lottery tickets, bongs, ladies unmentionables, lighters, Golden Tickets, full bottles of beer, wine and liquor, and other sundry and skeezy items just waiting to be absconded by you! That’s right, run up to the hills right now and start looking under all the lifts and scouring all the runs, ’cause there’s treasure just a-waiting to be found.

Massachusetts ski club saves Valentine’s Day, and yet another relationship

Valentine’s Day is for skiing, and diamonds are for saw blades.

The Times Union in Albany, NY, has a nice feature on the Mt. Greylock Ski Club in South Williamstown, Massachusetts, a private ski club that’s keeping it real. The club gives members access to skiing the way it used to be. This ain’t no Yellowstone Club. Thank God for that.

From the story:

Steve Melamed, a graduate student from Bard College, is an avid skier who comes here most weekends with his fiancee, Marisa Shuman.

Shuman was not a skier when they met. He brought her to larger resorts, but she wasn’t interested. However, she loves it here.

“It saved our relationship,” he says.

So hats off to small ski areas, simple pleasures, and love. (And a hat tip to Uncle Lou for the tip.)

Get your pass on, get some Love

Posted by frontrangeriffraff on October 24, 2008

Got your season pass yet? You still have a few weeks to purchase most passes, so get to buying, Mr. Brocrastinator.

Not up for a full-on season ride, my friend? Well, my friend, Loveland Ski Area offers great options, especially for Front Range riffraff. The Love offers a 4-Pak for only $109 if purchased at one of their pass sales events. That’s just $27.25 a day. Woot and woot. (It sells for $119 via phone or Intertubes.)

And, the best part about it? You can let your riffraff associates use the tickets whenever you want, even all four on the same day! Beat that Vail Inc. It’s a great deal if you want to take your out-of-Colorado friends up to the slopes, or only ride a few days a year, or want to host a Hawaiian shirt Friday company picnic on the slopes. I’m not a tax attorney, but I’m pretty sure Hawaiian shirt Friday company picnics are, like, totally tax-deductible and stuff.

So get out your penny jar and get some Love.
