Dress like a burrito and get a free burrito at Chipotle on Halloween night

Posted by frontrangeriffraff on October 30, 2008

Check your local Chipotle Mexican Grill on Halloween night, Friday, October 31, 2008, to score some free food. I believe that most locations are in on this boo-rito offer.  (My local Chipotle in south Longmont is participating, from 6 pm to closing.) So costume yourself in some titanium, aluminum or tin foil and get your free Halloween grinds.

Get your pass on, get some Love

Posted by frontrangeriffraff on October 24, 2008

Got your season pass yet? You still have a few weeks to purchase most passes, so get to buying, Mr. Brocrastinator.

Not up for a full-on season ride, my friend? Well, my friend, Loveland Ski Area offers great options, especially for Front Range riffraff. The Love offers a 4-Pak for only $109 if purchased at one of their pass sales events. That’s just $27.25 a day. Woot and woot. (It sells for $119 via phone or Intertubes.)

And, the best part about it? You can let your riffraff associates use the tickets whenever you want, even all four on the same day! Beat that Vail Inc. It’s a great deal if you want to take your out-of-Colorado friends up to the slopes, or only ride a few days a year, or want to host a Hawaiian shirt Friday company picnic on the slopes. I’m not a tax attorney, but I’m pretty sure Hawaiian shirt Friday company picnics are, like, totally tax-deductible and stuff.

So get out your penny jar and get some Love.

It’s snowing in the hills, and we’re getting closer to opening day for more Colorado ski areas. Friday, November 7 signals the start of skiing at four more Colorado areas, three of which will make KABVBC and CWPS passholders happy. Here’s a list of scheduled openings of most interest to Front Range riffraff:

Beaver Creek - Wednesday, Nov. 26
Breckenridge - Friday, Nov. 7
Copper Mountain - Friday, Nov. 7
Echo Mountain - around Thanksgiving
Eldora - Friday, Nov. 21
Keystone - Friday, Nov. 7
Steamboat – Wednesday, Nov. 26
Vail - Friday, Nov. 21
Winter Park - Wednesday, Nov. 19
Wolf Creek Ski Area - Friday, Nov. 7

No on 36, but Friday Night Lights scheduled at Keystone

Chad Robinson of team Hometown Heroes hangs out at the base area at midnight during the 36 Hours of Keystone on Friday November 30, 2007.

I found out today that the former 36 Hours of Keystone event is done. Finished, kaput, stick-a-fork in it done.

Since security was patting-down participants for contraband booze last year, it sounds like the event was getting a little too out of hand. Alcohol + gravity + night skiing + more alcohol = potential trouble.

But, Keystone is planning a new FREE concert series in place of the forlorn 36. The Friday Night Lights Concert Series will take place in the Hunki Dori parking lot next to the new River Run Gondola:

November 21st – Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
November 28th – DeVotchKa
December 5th – Girl Talk

There will be night skiing and riding each night. I’m sure many of the former 36 Hours peeps will be attracted to this new series like cougars to a fireman, so it should be fun. Did I mention it’s free? And, by the way, it’s free.

And, since it’s early season, the usual early season lodging deals can be found. The Inn at Keystone is a favorite of mine, with sweet rooftop hot tubs. Head to Keystone’s swanky Flashy webzsite for more info: www.keystonefnl.com

Opening Day, Opening Post – Hooray!

Posted by frontrangeriffraff on October 20, 2008

28 a.m., October 15, 2008.

Hours before "first chair," Brian Herrmann of Breckenridge, Colorado, hucks a jump at Loveland Ski Resort, 1:28 a.m., October 15, 2008.

Welcome to Front Range Riffraff. This blog is intended to keep my snow-riding friends up to date on all things skiing and snowboarding.

The name of this blog comes from a Colorado Confidential story published last spring. It touched on fears that the new Vail Resorts Epic Pass would bring too many Front Range skiers and snowboarders to Vail, and that those “Front Range riffraff” wouldn’t bring with them what most Vail merchants want – money. A follow-up story had some spin, a link to a denial, and “taken out of context” and “perhaps been off the record” fun. Either way, I like the name Front Range Riffraff. And since most of my friends live on the Front Range of Colorado, it was chosen.

I’ll be blogging about news and events that I think interest my fellow riders. You may read about a cheap hotel deal, or tips to score sweet powder, or resorts that allow Front Range riffraff to camp in their parking lots.

If this sounds of interest to you, I suggest you subscribe to Front Range Riffraff using your favorite RSS reader. Don’t have RSS? Just Google “RSS” to see what’s up. RSS is a great way to find all the webthings that you want to read. Safari users can use the built-in RSS reader, which is my preferred method.

Please feel free to give me your feedback, comments and questions. Look for “Ask Dude” posts in the future, providing answers to all your snow-related queries.

See ‘ya in the pow.

Rick
